The Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple Tiger Reserve, known as BRT, covers the Biligiriranga Hills in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, on the Tamil Nadu border. It was declared a tiger reserve in 2011. The hills sit where the Western and Eastern Ghats meet, forming a corridor for wildlife, and range from dry scrub to tall deciduous forest, shola and montane grassland above 1,800 m. Tigers, elephants, gaur, leopards and wild dogs live here, and the Soliga people have long lived in these forests.

Jeep safaris run in the morning and late afternoon from the Jungle Lodges camp at K Gudi, where packages include stay, meals, two safaris and forest entry. The Biligiri Ranganatha Swamy temple stands on the hilltop.

  • How to Reach: Mysuru is the nearest large city, with roads through Chamarajanagar or Yelandur to BR Hills and K Gudi. Bengaluru has the nearest major international airport.
