About Biratnagar

Overview

Biratnagar is a large city in Koshi Province in the eastern Terai of Nepal, close to the Indian border at Jogbani. It has the nearest airport to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, a Ramsar listed wetland of reed beds and marshes on the Kosi river floodplain. The reserve shelters Nepal's last herd of wild water buffalo and is one of the best birding spots in the country, especially in winter when ducks and waders arrive. The reserve headquarters is at Kusaha in Sunsari district.
