Njangattiri Aanayoottu

Njangattiri Aanayoottu is a unique elephant feeding ritual held annually at the Njangattiri Bhagavathy Temple near Pattambi in Palakkad, Kerala. Usually celebrated in late July or early August during the Malayalam month of Karkidakam, the event focuses on the well-being and rejuvenation of elephants.
During the ceremony, dozens of unadorned elephants are lined up within the temple premises. Devotees and priests offer them a specially prepared nutritious feast consisting of rice, jaggery, ghee, honey, and medicinal herbs. This ritual is deeply rooted in the belief that feeding the elephants, which represent Lord Ganesha, brings prosperity and removes obstacles.
