The Simhastha Kumbh Mela is held at Nashik and Trimbakeshwar once every 12 years, when Jupiter enters Leo (Simha). The 2026 to 2028 edition opens with Dhwajarohan, the ceremonial flag hoisting, on 31 October 2026 at Ramkund in Nashik and at Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar. The mela then runs for close to two years and is scheduled to conclude in July 2028.

The days that draw the largest crowds are the Amrit Snans, when the akharas lead processions to the water for the holy dip. The first two fall on 2 August 2027 (Somvati Amavasya) and 31 August 2027 at both sites. The third is on 11 September 2027 in Nashik and 12 September 2027 in Trimbakeshwar. Nashik hosts the Vaishnav akharas along the Godavari, while Trimbakeshwar, about 30 km away near the source of the river, hosts the Shaiva akharas.

Only these key dates are listed here, but pilgrims bathe on many other parva days through 2027 and 2028. Expect very heavy crowds, road closures and diversions around Ramkund and Trimbakeshwar on Amrit Snan days. Book stays in Nashik well ahead and check the district administration's notices for parking, shuttle and bathing ghat arrangements before you travel.
