Datta Jayanti
PastDatta Jayanti, also known as Dattatreya Jayanti, is the birth anniversary of Lord Dattatreya, celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Margashirsha month.
The day honours Lord Dattatreya, believed to be the combined incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Devotees observe the occasion with fasting, prayers, chanting of Datta Bavani and reading the Avadhuta Gita or Guru Charitra.
Temples dedicated to Dattatreya-especially in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh - hold special pujas, bhajans and processions. Many people visit holy sites like Ganagapur, Narasimha Saraswati temples and Datta Peethas for darshan. The festival emphasises spiritual discipline, devotion and the pursuit of knowledge, making it a significant day for followers of the Datta tradition.
