Warangal Fort

13th century Kakatiya fort famed for its carved sandstone gateways.

Warangal Fort was built in the 13th century under King Ganapati Deva and completed by his successors Rudrama Devi and Prataparudra, serving as the seat of the Kakatiya dynasty. The fort's triple layered circular fortification once offered a formidable defence, though centuries of invasion have left much of it in ruins. Its four ornamental gateways, known as Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, remain the site's most iconic feature. Recognised as an archaeological zone, the fort is a core stop on any Warangal heritage trail.
