Simhachalam Temple (Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam)

Ancient hilltop Vishnu temple facing west, known for its Kalinga architecture and annual Chandanotsavam festival.

Simhachalam Temple is perched on Simhachalam Hill and dedicated to Lord Varaha Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu. The temple uniquely faces west rather than east, and its Kalinga style architecture includes five gateways and three courtyards. The deity remains coated in sandalwood paste year round except during the annual Chandanotsavam festival, when the natural form beneath is revealed to devotees.
