Ratnagiri Balamurugan Temple sits atop a hill roughly seventeen kilometers from Vellore and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. Poet Arunagirinathar wrote verses in praise of this site as early as the fourteenth century, when the shrine began as a modest sand structure. It was rebuilt into its present stone form in 1980 through the efforts of local devotees, and the grand granite entrance now leads pilgrims up the hillside to the sanctum for darshan.
