The Government Museum sits within Vellore Fort and holds a wide collection of artefacts spanning the Pallava, Chola, Rashtrakuta, and Vijayanagara periods. Its galleries cover art, science, numismatics, and anthropology, with stone sculptures, bronze idols, and ancient coins on display. Some exhibits date back to the eighth century, and the museum takes roughly two hours to explore properly, making it a worthwhile addition to a half day spent touring the fort complex.
