Kappil Lake forms a picturesque estuary a short distance from Varkala, framed by dense coconut trees and eventually opening into the Arabian Sea. The bridge crossing the lake offers a particularly striking view of where the backwaters meet the ocean, and pedal boats are available for hire near the water's edge. It makes for a peaceful stop away from the busier cliff and beach areas.
