Shri Kashi Math Samsthan

Headquarters of Shri Kashi Math Samsthan, the math of the Madhva section of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community, at Brahma Ghat.

Shri Kashi Math Samsthan is a matha (monastery) and spiritual organisation followed by the Madhva section of the Goud Saraswat Brahmin community. Its headquarters is at Brahma Ghat in Varanasi, on the bank of the Ganga, and the math takes its name from Kashi.

According to the Samsthan, it was founded around 1542 by Shrimath Vijayendra Thirtha of the Kumbakonam Math, who initiated a boy into sanyasa in Kashi around 1540 as Shrimath Yadavendra Thirtha, the first Swamiji of the math. Its principal deities are moving idols of Vyasa, Rama and Narasimha, known together as Vyasa Raghupathi Narasimha. Samyamindra Thirtha is the 21st and current head.

The math has followers along the Konkan coast, notably in Mumbai, Goa, Udupi, Mangalore and Kochi. The G.S.B. Seva Mandal at King's Circle in Mumbai, known for its Ganeshotsav, owes its allegiance to the Samsthan. The Varanasi math has accommodation and pooja facilities for devotees.
