Ratneshwar Mahadev Temple, popularly known as the Leaning Temple of Varanasi, is a small 19th-century Shiva temple located near Manikarnika Ghat. Built by a woman named Ratnabai, the temple has a distinct lean of about 9 degrees from the vertical, making it one of Varanasi's most photographed and curious monuments. It stands partially submerged in the Ganga during the monsoon months and emerges as the river recedes. According to local legend, the temple tilts as a mark of respect to the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The temple is active and devotees perform puja here year-round despite its unusual tilt.
