Malviya Bridge (Dufferin Bridge) over the Ganga at Varanasi is a historic double-decker bridge carrying both rail and road traffic, built by the British in 1887 and named after engineer Sir Thomas Bradford. The lower deck carries the railway and the upper deck serves road traffic. The bridge offers one of the best aerial views of the Varanasi ghats and the Ganga, especially at dawn when the ghats glow in the early light. The bridge has been the backdrop for many famous photographs and films capturing Varanasi's iconic riverside skyline.
