Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most famous and vibrant ghat on the Ganga in Varanasi, located near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma performed the Dashashwamedha yajna (sacrifice of ten horses) here to welcome Lord Shiva. The ghat is best known for the spectacular Ganga Aarti ceremony performed every evening, where priests perform a synchronised ritual of fire, incense, and devotion to a crowd of thousands. Boats on the river create a floating audience for this nightly spectacle. The ghat is the cultural and spiritual heart of Varanasi and is perpetually alive with pilgrims, sadhus, boat rides, and the rituals of Hindu life.
