Mandvi Gate in the heart of Vadodara's old city was a square-shaped pavilion from which toll was collected from merchants and traders during the Mughal era. Its bold arches on all four sides and domed clock tower are characteristic of the period's civic architecture. During the Gaekwad era the Gate served as the public announcement point for important proclamations. Today it is illuminated dramatically during festivals, transforming it into one of the city's most photographed landmarks at night.
