Kirti Mandir

A cenotaph and mausoleum of the Gaekwad dynasty with murals by Nandalal Bose and an undivided map of India.

Kirti Mandir, meaning Temple of Fame, is the royal mausoleum of the Gaekwad dynasty of Baroda, built to commemorate Maharaja Sayajirao III's 50-year reign. The Indo-Saracenic structure is distinguished by its interior murals painted by Nandalal Bose, a pioneer of modern Indian art. The central hall features a map of undivided India on the floor and celestial symbols representing the cosmos. Understated from the outside, the interior quality makes it a rewarding stop for art and heritage enthusiasts.
