Kaup Beach and Lighthouse

A black rock beach with an 1901 British era lighthouse offering panoramic Arabian Sea views.

Kaup Beach, about twelve kilometers south of Udupi, is framed by dark granite cliffs and a striped lighthouse built by the British in 1901 that still guides vessels along the coast. Climbing the spiral staircase to the top rewards visitors with sweeping views of the Arabian Sea on one side and coastal backwaters on the other. The beach itself is quieter than Malpe, with a scenic, rugged character that photographers and sunset watchers particularly favor.
