The Shahi Jama Masjid of Tonk was begun by Nawab Amir Khan, the founder of the state, and completed under his son Nawab Wazir-ud-Daula in the 19th century. It is one of the largest mosques in Rajasthan, with four tall minarets and a wide courtyard. Inside, the walls and ceilings are covered with gold paint and enamel work in floral patterns, with Quranic verses in calligraphy. Visitors should dress modestly, remove shoes, and avoid visiting during Friday prayers.
