The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Arabic Persian Research Institute was set up by the Rajasthan government in 1978, building on the library of the Nawabs of Tonk. It holds thousands of Arabic, Persian and Urdu manuscripts and rare printed books, along with calligraphy, farmans and old documents. Its display hall shows some of the finest pieces, including a very large handwritten Quran. Casual visitors can see the display on working days. Researchers who want to consult manuscripts should contact the institute in advance.
