Pavazhakundru Murugan Temple sits on a coral colored rocky outcrop on the lower slopes of Arunachala Hill, close to Virupaksha Cave, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The shrine marks an important stop along the inner hill path and is associated with several legends connecting it to the cave dwelling saints who once meditated nearby. Its elevated position offers views over the temple town, and the steady stream of pilgrims passing through during Girivalam keeps the small shrine active with daily offerings and prayers.
