Adi Annamalai Temple, located along the Girivalam path, is considered the oldest temple in Tiruvannamalai at roughly two thousand years old, predating the grand Annamalaiyar Temple that now dominates the town. Dedicated to Shiva, it is regarded by many devotees as the original seat of worship on Arunachala Hill before the larger complex was built. The temple's smaller scale and weathered stone carry a sense of antiquity, and pilgrims walking the circumambulation often pause here to connect with the site's deep historical roots.
