Vayalur Murugan Temple is a Chola era shrine dedicated to Lord Muruga, standing amid what were once open paddy fields on Trichy's outskirts. The temple carries roughly twenty Chola inscriptions documenting royal patronage across several generations of rulers, and it holds a place in Tamil devotional literature through verses composed here in the Thiruppugazh tradition. Its temple tank, Sakthi Theertham, and a rare Nataraja idol with both feet grounded add further distinction to the site.
