Manapad Beach and St. James Church

Manapad is a small fishing village on the southeastern Tamil Nadu coast about 18 km from Thiruchendur, known for two distinct draws: a beautiful and largely uncrowded beach and a historic Portuguese-era church perched on a rocky promontory above the sea. St. James Church, also known locally as the Holy Cross Church, dates to the 16th century and is one of the oldest Christian structures in South India. The combination of ancient faith, colonial architecture, and a calm Bay of Bengal shoreline gives Manapad a layered and quietly compelling character that contrasts well with the pilgrimage intensity of Thiruchendur.
