Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple (Thiruchendur Murugan Temple)

One of the six sacred Arupadai Veedu of Lord Murugan, an ancient Dravidian seafront temple rising above the Bay of Bengal with towering gopurams.

Arulmigu Subramaniya Swamy Temple is one of the six Arupadai Veedu, the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan, and the only one situated directly on the seashore. The temple sits on a rocky promontory above the Bay of Bengal in Thiruchendur, with its gopurams visible from the sea. Known in Puranic tradition as Jayanthipuram, it marks the site where Murugan is believed to have vanquished the demon Surapadma and then offered worship to Lord Shiva. The temple's Dravidian architecture, daily abhishekam rituals, and the sound of waves merging with Vedic chanting create an atmosphere unlike any other Murugan shrine in Tamil Nadu.
