Punnainallur Mariamman Temple is one of the most visited Shakti shrines in the Thanjavur belt, dedicated to Goddess Mariamman and situated about 5 km from the city. The presiding goddess is believed to bestow fertility, protection, and relief from disease. The temple follows Dravidian architectural style with a tall, richly decorated gopuram at the entrance. Crowds are heaviest on Tuesdays, Fridays, and during major festivals. The annual chariot festival and the Poochorithal flower ceremony are the temple's most celebrated events, drawing pilgrims from across the Kaveri delta region.
