Nuranang Falls, also called Jang Falls, is a powerful waterfall dropping about 100 metres through a dense forested gorge near Jang village, about 40 km before Tawang on the road from Bomdila. The falls are fed by the Nuranang River which originates from the slopes of Sela Pass. The waterfall is named after Nura, a local Monpa girl who helped the legendary soldier Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat during the 1962 war and was later captured by Chinese forces. The site has a small hydroelectric plant at its base. The falls are most impressive during and just after the monsoon season when the volume of water is at its highest. The surrounding forest of pine and rhododendron adds to the dramatic setting.
