Sakshi Ganapathi Temple

A Ganesha shrine pilgrims visit first, believed to witness and record every devotee's pilgrimage.

Sakshi Ganapathi Temple sits about three kilometers from the main Mallikarjuna shrine, on the route between the temple and the dam. Tradition holds that pilgrims should visit this Ganesha shrine before anything else, since the deity here is believed to keep a written record of every devotee who completes the Srisailam pilgrimage. The idol is carved holding a book in one hand and a pen in the other, depicted in the act of noting down each visitor's name.
