Kaattu Azhagiya Singar Perumal Temple

Ancient Narasimha temple within the Srirangam island dating to the 9th century considered older in sanctity than the Ranganathaswamy Temple.

Kaattu Azhagiya Singar Perumal Temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, the man-lion avatar of Vishnu, and stands within the Srirangam island. Built by the Pandya king Vallabadevan in the 9th century CE, local tradition holds that this kshetram predates the Ranganathaswamy Temple itself, from the time when the site was still known as Velli Thirumutham. Despite its historical significance, the temple is not listed among the 108 Divya Desams. Its quiet, comparatively unhurried atmosphere makes it one of the most accessible and serene temple visits within the Srirangam island circuit.
