Dolanji Bon Monastery

A serene Tibetan Bon monastery near Solan, the faith's principal seat outside Tibet, known for masked Cham dances.

Dolanji Bon Monastery, also called Menri Monastery, sits in the pine covered hills about sixteen kilometers from Solan and serves as the main seat of the ancient Bon tradition outside Tibet. Re-established here in 1967 after the original Menri Monastery in Tibet was destroyed, it is home to over two hundred monks who continue centuries old teachings in Sutra, Tantra and Dzogchen. Visitors can witness the colorful Cham dance festival during Losar, the Tibetan New Year, when monks perform ritual dances in elaborate costumes.
