Sevokeshwari Kali Mandir, believed to have been built in 1730, is the most revered temple in the Siliguri region. It sits on a forested hilltop near the Coronation Bridge (Sevoke Bridge) on the banks of the Teesta River, about 26 km from Siliguri on the road to Kalimpong. Reaching the main sanctum requires climbing 107 steps cut into the hillside, flanked by dense green forest on both sides.
The presiding deity is Maa Kali, whose idol is adorned with gems and decorative armour. The temple draws pilgrims year-round, with the largest crowds during Navratri and Durga Puja when processions and special rituals are held. Newlyweds from across the region traditionally visit to seek the goddess's blessings for married life.
From the temple top, on clear days, the snow-capped peak of Kanchenjunga is visible over the winding Teesta below - one of the most striking viewpoints in the Siliguri area. Open all hours; no entry fee.
