Shantinatha Basadi (Jinanathapura)

Shantinatha Basadi stands in Jinanathapura, a locality founded at the northern foot of Chandragiri in 1117 AD, and is considered the most ornate of Karnataka's Hoysala period basadis. Its detailed carving sets it apart from the plainer basadis on the two main hills. Because it sits slightly outside the central pilgrim circuit, it draws fewer crowds despite its architectural importance. Visitors with extra time on their itinerary find it a worthwhile short detour.
