Butterfly Museum, formally the Wankhar Entomology Museum, is India's only museum dedicated exclusively to moths and butterflies, housed in a private residence near Christian Academy School in Riatsamthiah, about 2 km from Police Bazar. Founded in the 1930s by Bengali entomologist Siddhartha Kumar Sarkar, who married into the Khasi Wankhar family, the collection has grown to over 1,600 species of butterflies, moths, beetles, and tarantulas from across the world. The museum runs an active butterfly breeding and conservation programme.
