Chaubatia Gardens is a large state fruit research orchard at about 2,100 metres, a short drive from Ranikhet town. Apple, apricot, peach, and plum terraces are at their best in March and April when the hillside is in blossom. You can buy seasonal fruit and walk on to Bhalu Dam if you want a longer outing. Stay in Ranikhet and go in the morning before day-trip coaches arrive.
