Ranakpur Dam is a small reservoir set amid the forested Aravalli hills just a few kilometres from the Jain temples. It offers a rare scene of still water and dense greenery against the rocky ridgelines typical of this part of Rajasthan. The dam is popular with birdwatchers as indigenous and migratory birds come to the water's edge. From the dam's embankment, the entire surrounding valley is visible. It is a natural antidote to the cultural intensity of the temple complex and one of the most photographed landscapes in the Ranakpur area.
