Muchhal Mahavir Temple

A Jain temple at Ghanerao ~21 km from Ranakpur part of the Gorwad Panch Tirth famous for the extraordinary idol of Lord Mahavir bearing a moustache.

Muchhal Mahavir Temple at Ghanerao, about 21 km from Ranakpur inside the Kumbhalgarh sanctuary belt, is dedicated to Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara. It is one of the five shrines forming the Gorwad Panch Tirth alongside Ranakpur. The temple takes its name from a remarkable legend: a Mewar king challenged a priest to prove that Lord Mahavir bore a moustache, and the deity miraculously appeared with one. The idol is still displayed with this marking. Built in Nagara architecture with elephant guardian statues at the gateway, the temple is set amid forest with a Garasia tribal village nearby.
