Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary surrounds Ranakpur within its 610-square-kilometre expanse of hilly dry-deciduous Aravalli forest, with a sanctuary entrance just 2 km from the Jain temples. The forest is one of Rajasthan's best places for leopard sightings, and a 2020 census recorded around 136 leopards within the sanctuary. Indian wolves, sloth bears, striped hyenas, sambar, nilgai, and over 200 bird species also inhabit the terrain. Jeep safaris operate at sunrise and sunset from near the temple, and horse-riding trails connect Ranakpur to Kumbhalgarh Fort through the forest interior.
