Kothandaramaswamy Temple

A temple near Dhanushkodi marking where Vibhishana is believed to have surrendered to Rama.

Kothandaramaswamy Temple stands near Dhanushkodi at the island's tip, marking the spot where Vibhishana, brother of the demon king Ravana, is believed to have come to surrender and pledge support to Rama before the war in Lanka began. Encircled by sea on three sides, the temple has a striking, isolated setting that adds to its mythological weight. Remarkably, it survived the devastating 1964 cyclone that wiped out much of Dhanushkodi, which devotees see as further proof of its sanctity.
