Charbhuja Temple, Garhbor

A 1444 AD Vishnu temple in Garhbor village, revered for its four armed idol and centuries of devotional history.

The Charbhuja Temple sits in Garhbor village, built in 1444 by Shri Gang Dev after a dream instructed him to recover a buried idol from the Gomati river. The 85 centimetre idol of Charbhuja Nath, or four armed Vishnu, holds a conch, discus, mace and lotus, with gold and silver work adorning the sanctum. Legend holds it survived more than a hundred battles fought in its defence, making it one of the region's most storied shrines.
