Son Bhandar Caves

Twin rock cut caves at the base of the hills, tied to legends of King Bimbisara''s hidden treasure.

Son Bhandar Caves, meaning treasure of gold, are two caves cut from monolithic rock at the foothills of the Vaibhava range, long associated with legends of a hidden gold hoard belonging to King Bimbisara. Carved figures and inscriptions in the ancient Shankhalipi script line the cave walls, and local lore holds that Jain ascetics once used the caves as a retreat. The caves' compact size makes for a quick stop, best paired with a walk to the nearby hot springs or Venu Vana.
