Jain Temples of Ratnagiri and Vaibhavgiri

A cluster of white Jain shrines across Rajgir''s hills, linked to Mahavira''s fourteen monsoons in the region.

Rajgir holds deep significance for Jains since Mahavira is said to have spent fourteen monsoon retreats meditating across its hills, and the slopes of Ratnagiri and Vaibhavgiri are dotted with a cluster of white painted Jain temples reached by a separate ropeway and walking trails. Many of the shrines date from later restorations rather than Mahavira's own time, but the setting among five hills considered sacred by both Buddhists and Jains gives the temples a shared spiritual weight with the town's Buddhist sites. Pilgrims often combine a visit here with the Vishwa Shanti Stupa given their shared hill approach.
