Vaishali on FC Road traces its roots to Madras Health Home, opened in the early 1950s, and took its present name in the late 1960s. It is one of the city's best known meeting places for students, writers and families. The menu is vegetarian, with dosas, idli, uttappa and Udupi style snacks, and the SPDP (sev potato dahi puri) is what many regulars order. Expect to wait for a table in the mornings and at weekends.
