An ancient underground temple inside Allahabad Fort, Patalpuri is one of Prayagraj most most sacred shrines. Accessed through a subterranean passage beneath the fort ramparts, its long gallery houses idols of over 40 deities. Mentioned by Chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang in 644 AD, the temple is believed to have been visited by Lord Rama and the Pandavas. It is an essential stop for pilgrims arriving at the Triveni Sangam.
