Tara Mandir (Nehru Planetarium)

A 1977 planetarium built with Nehru's support, offering dome shows on astronomy for families and school groups.

Tara Mandir, widely known as the Nehru Planetarium, opened in 1977 as one of only two such planetariums initiated under Jawaharlal Nehru, funded by philanthropist Nanjibhai Mehta. A domed screen inside projects shows on stars, planets, and the solar system, with entrance panels also referencing Gandhi's Non-Cooperation Movement. The presentations run in Hindi, Gujarati, and English, drawing mostly families and student groups looking for an indoor break from Porbandar's coastal heat.
