Jamtara Gate is one of the three core entries to Pench Tiger Reserve on the Madhya Pradesh side, with Turia and Karmajhiri. It opens into the northern part of the core, with teak forest, grassland and streams that hold tigers, leopards, gaur, wild dogs and many birds. It sees fewer vehicles than Turia, so drives here are usually quieter.
Book core permits on the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department portal, forest.mponline.gov.in. The core is open from 1 October to 30 June, with morning and afternoon shifts. Mobile phones are not allowed on safari. Jamtara is a longer drive from the Turia lodge area, so check timings and allow travel time from your stay.
