Pemayangtse Monastery was established in 1647 and later enlarged in 1705, standing as the head monastery of the Nyingma sect in Sikkim, controlling other monasteries of the same order. Statues of Padmasambhava and his two consorts anchor the interior, surrounded by detailed murals and woodwork. Perched on a ridge with Himalayan views and a direct sightline to the Rabdentse ruins below, it remains Pelling's most visited religious site.
