Papanatha Temple

Nagara-style Chalukya temple at Pattadakal with elongated hall and dense carvings.

Papanatha Temple sits slightly apart toward the south of the Pattadakal group and shows a strong Nagara rekha-prasada elevation with an elongated hall. Interior ambulatories and dense wall sculpture make it feel more enclosed than the open Dravida twins. Many guides treat it as the best place to study northern-style experiments at the site. Walk here after Virupaksha and Mallikarjuna to see both idioms in one visit.
