Mallikarjuna Temple stands beside Virupaksha as a slightly smaller twin, commissioned by Queen Trailokyamahadevi after the same Pallava campaigns. It shares the Dravida plan with a four-storeyed vimana and circular griva and shikhara, plus its own Nandi pavilion. Comparing the two temples side by side is one of the clearest lessons in Early Chalukya maturity. Give both equal time rather than treating Mallikarjuna as a quick add-on.
