Konni Elephant Training Center sits on the banks of the Achankovil River, about eleven kilometres from Pathanamthitta town. Established in 1942, the centre once trained wild elephants captured from nearby forests, and today cares for calves separated from their herds or found injured in the wild. Large wooden cages known locally as aanakoodu once housed newly captured elephants and still stand on site. A small on-site museum displays a tusker skeleton.
