Se Cathedral Old Goa

The largest church in Asia and UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its Golden Bell and Portuguese Manueline style.

Se Cathedral in Old Goa, adjacent to the Basilica of Bom Jesus, is the largest church in Asia and the seat of the Archbishop of Goa. Built between 1562 and 1619 by the Portuguese on the site of a mosque to celebrate Afonso de Albuquerque's victory over the Moors, the Cathedral is in Manueline-Portuguese Gothic style with a plain laterite exterior and a richly decorated interior featuring five altars, a gilded retable and the famous Golden Bell, the largest and most resonant bell in Goa. The convent and church complex forms the centrepiece of the Old Goa UNESCO Heritage Zone.
