Dona Paula is a promontory 7 km southwest of Panjim at the confluence of the Mandovi and Zuari rivers with the Arabian Sea, offering sweeping views across the water to the Mormugao headland and the open sea. The name comes from a romantic Portuguese legend of a nobleman's daughter who threw herself from the cliff for love. The jetty area has water sports, seafood shacks and vendors, while the higher viewpoint is calmer. The National Institute of Oceanography is also located here.
